Carroll back running

Thinking of a return: Andy Carroll could be back in action soon
Andy Carroll has started running for the first time since his ankle surgery at the end of July.

West Ham’s England striker has taken the first steps towards his recovery after he was confirmed to be out for four months with torn ankle ligaments.

Carroll went under the knife in Baltimore after leaving the club’s New Zealand tour.

The striker is understood to be quietly confident of being back in action ahead of his scheduled return at the end of November.

His optimism is being tempered within the club, however, as Carroll missed the first half of last season after failing to recover as quickly as expected from his injury at the time.

It is nonetheless a big boost for West Ham who were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by League One Sheffield United at the end of August.

They were also beaten by Southampton - the last game before the international break - in the Premier League.

That's good news, the player to complete the jigsaw and once up and running we will see England's number 9 at his finest. Lucky to have this lad.

Shame it's kind of a 'meh' feeling when it comes to news about Andy.

Another season to his career where he won't be fit enough.

Re: Carroll back running
same old shit. "leaked " dates, very nebulous and easy to see November turning into his first match in January, coming on late and barely touching ht ball. The same old shit. When you've played as few games as he has for three years now, there will be tight hamstrings, and other aches- lucky to get ten games this season i reckon.

Tired of the talk, tired of "fitter than ever", bored of him offereing something different.

Just get fit and do your talking on the pitch, not on Instagram, twitter or into the bottom of a glass, Carroll.

Good for him. January it is then. Bet Nolan and Collins can't wait.

Yes, I've got a resigned feeling of 'so what'

I suppose that's partly due to the Club supplying a few alternatives this Summer. Now all we have to do is drop LOLton and give them a chance.

Re: Carroll back running
He will be fine, it's a different injury than before, he isn't injury prone.

Once he is back bulldozing defenders and knocking those balls down for Nolan we will have one of the most effective partnerships in the Barclays premierleague and be well ok our way to those 40 points.

He can run as much as he wants, he still can't score enough goals for my liking.

Re: Carroll back running
I'd rather use him as an option than regular starter anyway. Let's face it he isn't going to run onto a through ball from Song or supply any movement up front to create space for others. When you look at the clever movement of the top strikers in the PL then you realise just how static he is.

He's just a battering ram when you are chasing a game and want to load balls into the box and hope something drops kindly.

We were told there was more to his game than heading the ball and trying to outmuscle defenders but that's not been evident so far and frankly Sakho or Valencia seem more likely to create space for themselves.

Good news that he is recovering but I really don't see that it would have a big impact on our fortunes and I really want the play to consist of more than hoof it to the lone frontman to hold up.

Re: Carroll back running
I hope the likes of Sakho, Valencia and Zarate can perform well between now and his return. He needs to know that he is not always first on the team sheet (when fit!).
